Drones and/or Mechatronic Engineering Internship

Overview

The internship opportunity will involve joining Halcyon Technologies to assist with the development of an Uncrewed Aerial System and its associated launch and recovery system.

During the internship, you will undergo extensive mentoring in industry best practice design methodologies, exposing you to the tools and processes used to develop high performance autonomous system, in a challenging and dynamic operational environment. You will have the opportunity to develop your skills and experience while working in both the airborne and maritime domains.

You will be supported through an employment contract with Halcyon Technologies at a minimum rate of $1,200 per week. This paid internship opportunity is made possible through a co-funded arrangement between Defence Trailblazer and Halcyon Technologies.

Eligibility Criteria
  • Penultimate and final year students currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Aerospace / Aeronautical Engineering, Drones & Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related discipline, with a passion to work with drones
  • Australia Citizens able to secure National Security Clearance
  • Preference may given to students possessing experience with the following:
    • MAVLINK protocol
    • Basic Ubuntu/Linux knowledge
    • Autodesk suite of CAD products (Fusion 360)
    • PX4 or Ardupilot flight controller software
    • Arduino IDE
    • Robot Operating System 2 (ROS2)
  • Student will need to be comfortable being out on the ocean for sea-based testing, working largely independently and be willing to travel to Brisbane, Queensland for a short period of time during the internship.
Additional Information

The internship is anticipated to commence on mid-September 2024 and will be offered on a part-time basis (2-3 days/week) over a 6-month period, for a minimum of 60 business days.

You will be appropriately supervised by a qualified Halcyon Technologies staff engineer, who will be visiting Sydney occasionally.

During the placement, you will be expected to spend 1-2 weeks at Halcyon Technologies workshop and integration facility in Brisbane. Travel and accommodation costs for the visit to Brisbane will be covered by the company.

At the conclusion of the internship, full-time employment opportunities may be available for suitable candidates interested in future employment with Halcyon Technologies.
