Ignis Hypersonics

2026 EFD+ Company

Ignis Hypersonics develops sovereign, dual-use liquid rocket propulsion for defence and commercial space. We are building a modular, patent-pending rotating detonation engine designed to be affordable, scalable, and reusable. Common engine units combine in arrays to scale thrust without redesign, and we are designing for replaceable modules to simplify sustainment. Detonation-based propulsion offers higher thermodynamic efficiency than conventional rocket engines, and our architecture delivers throttling, restart, and controlled shutdown, the control authority that hypersonic effectors, guided weapons, and reusable launch demand. This capability complements Australia’s sovereign solid rocket motor base, broadening the range of missions Australia can develop and sustain from domestic industry.

That control authority depends on software as much as hardware, so alongside the engine we develop the intelligent platform that runs it. Our engine-agnostic digital twin combines reduced-order modelling, state estimation, and predictive control to monitor and command engine behaviour in real time, and to support design, qualification, and sustainment across an engine’s life. General-purpose simulation tools do not address detonation physics or detonation-specific control, so we are building this capability as a product in its own right and commercialising it for propulsion programs in any sector worldwide.

Whether delivering propulsion hardware or the software that controls it, our focus is on practical, sovereign capability that meets the operational demands of defence and commercial customers.
