Professor Malaney is a quantum and wireless communications expert at UNSW, with a career spanning international institutions including California Institute of Technology (USA), the University of California (USA), and the University of Toronto (Canada). His research focuses on quantum communications, satellite systems, and hybrid networks, with strong applications in secure data and space technologies.
He leads a research group supported by the Australian Research Council, the Department of Defence, NASA, and industry partners, and is actively engaged in translating advanced research into commercial solutions. With over 200 publications, a strong track record of mentoring PhD students and extensive cross-sector collaboration, Professor Malaney plays a key role in Australia’s innovation landscape.
