Student Placements & Projects

The Student Placements & Projects Program connects industry partners with university students keen to undertake an internship, project or experiential learning activity with defence industry.

The program is aimed at meeting future workforce needs, improving linkages between academia and industry, as well as enabling access to a skilled talent pipeline. 

Program Benefits

  • Access to diverse talent – Bachelor, Masters or Research students from all disciplines at either the University of Adelaide or UNSW (Sydney or Canberra).
  • Shared funding – Defence Trailblazer and industry partner co-funded scholarships enable 100% industry IP.
  • High-value scholarships – incentivise students to join the program with an allowance of up to $1,000 per week
  • Streamlined support – rely on our University expertise to assist with student shortlisting, promotion of opportunities and student payments

Industry Partner Requirements:

  • Be able to provide the student with meaningful duties, a project and an appropriate workload in line with the needs of the business and the student’s area of study
  • Provide relevant and meaningful tasks for the full period
  • Provide a professional, safe and supportive working environment
  • Access to work facilities, including a desk, computer, resources etc.
  • Identify a suitable supervisor and mentor for the duration of the program – an accredited engineer supervisor is required for engineering students
  • Be a registered Australian business with current public liability insurance of at least AUD $20million
  • Be willing to provide co-funding of up to $500 per week as an allowance to support students whilst on placement
  • Be prepared to provide feedback to Defence Trailblazer regarding the students’ progress.
