University of Adelaide & QuantX Labs win AFR Higher Education Research Commercialisation award

The University of Adelaide has been named as a winner in the Financial Review Higher Education Awards’ Research Commercialisation category for its partnership with QuantX Labs.

The University of Adelaide spin-out was founded on research by entrepreneurial physicists Professors Andre Luiten and John Hartnett from the University Adelaide’s Institute for Photonics and Advanced Sensing (IPAS).

QuantX Labs is translating lab-based quantum technology into a suite of quantum timekeeping and sensing products that respond to a range of commercial needs, including civilian and defence communications networks.

It is currently maturing its technologies through several projects funded by the Defence Trailblazer’s Technology Development & Acceleration program.

Professor Luiten was featured in the Australian Financial Review on 20 August. He explained that open communication and speed to capability has been a key component of success in commercialising the technology.

“One of the real challenges for transferring complex deep tech out of a university is that much of it exists within the heads of the researchers as exotic know-how.” says Professor Luiten.
